1. Core Meaning
Primary / Literal Meaning:
— To remove a covering, to bring forth (سَفَرَ — safara)
— To sweep, to clear — to move one thing away from another

وَالصُّبْحِ اِذٓا اَسْفَرَ
The morning light — aṣfara (the dawning, the brightening). The lifting of darkness: knowledge against ignorance.
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُسْفِرَةٌ
Bright faces — musfira (uncovered, shining). The spiritual condition of believers in the Hereafter: their inner beauty made manifest.
مَثَلُ الَّذِينَ حُمِّلُوا التَّوْرٰيةَ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَحْمِلُوهَا كَمَثَلِ الْحِمَارِ يَحْمِلُ اَسْفَاراً بِئْسَ مَثَلُ الْقَوْمِ الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا بِاٰيَاتِ اللّٰهِ وَاللّٰهُ لَا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الظَّالِمِينَ
Truths that uncover knowledge but are carried without being understood — asfâr (books).
اَيَّاماً مَعْدُودَاتٍ فَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ مَرِيضاً اَوْ عَلٰى سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِنْ اَيَّامٍ اُخَرَ وَعَلَى الَّذِينَ يُطِيقُونَهُ فِدْيَةٌ طَعَامُ مِسْكِينٍ فَمَنْ تَطَوَّعَ خَيْراً فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَهُ وَاَنْ تَصُومُوا خَيْرٌ لَكُمْ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ
